The other day I shared this Video.
A few months ago, I heard something that changed me. Well first it convicted me, then I decided to take heart and show up differently.
I’m no stranger to looking and feeling amazing. Whether running errands, out with friends, or at church… I tend to put my best foot forward when it comes to my appearance. Looking and feeling good in what I wear is a form of self care for me so yea, I get the importance of getting myself together.
But since having my son, I found myself reserving these “look my best” moments for when I’m out of the house. Now don’t get my wrong, I would still beat my face from time to time, and I have a wardrobe filled with only the things that I love to wear... but I found myself giving the bare minimum while in my home.
That was until Angel from @Habitsofahomemaker came on the screen and encouraged stay at home moms and homemakers to present their best to their families! Now let me explain why I felt so convicted!
If you’ve been following me for any considerable amount of time, then you already know I get my time. I actually take a “Selfish Sunday” once a month where I am baby-free to do and move as I please (shout out to my amazing hubby for making sure this happens for me every month). Well whenever I was getting ready to head out, my husband would ALWAYS comment “Wow you look great, why don’t you do that for me”. I would often respond with a very intentional “Take me out and I’ll do this for you” and that would be the end of it.
This was something that we would say to each other for years. And I didn’t really feel any type of way about it until recently. when sis came at my neck… talking about… “Why is it that we look our best, and put the extra effort into how we show up when we’re with friends or even around strangers… but our families get the bare minimum….” Now when sis was speaking, I know she was more so speaking of those who don’t shower, or brush their teeth, and only present their tired worn out selves to their husbands (yes… she called out the crust lol). And by God’s grace that’s never been my life… I always take care of those things. But I was definitely convicted to do better for the sake of my husband because of this very exchange that took place for years!
So here I am… waking up at the crack of dawn, to seek my Heavenly Father, and get myself ready for the calling of the day. It’s been a little over 3 months of me intentionally putting forth the extra va-va-voom and showing up as my best for my family… and my husband came to me the other day and said “I love what I’m seeing” . Yassss!! And I’d like to mention I’ve had several Selfish Sundays since and I haven’t heard the “Why don’t you dress like that for me” comment! #Winning!
I share this to say, put the extra effort into showing up as your best self for your family. This doesn’t mean you have to put on the full beat with a ball gown. It does mean give yourself permission to take those 10-15 minutes in the morning before your family wakes up to take care of yourself. This is not just for the benefit of your family… this is first and foremost for you! Making the time to look and feel your best will help you to show up more confidently as a mom... trust me it is true! Add in the 7 principles I outlines in my Stay at Home Mom Guide, and you’re completely unstoppable! Come on Somebody!
Making the time to look and feel your best will help you to show up more confidently as a mom. – Theresa D
So as we dive into Hair & Beauty Week, I want you to keep a few things in mind…
- It’s okay to look and feel your best, actually it’s so important. I’ll be sharing my faves, but that doesn’t mean that all of the specific products and things will work for you. The goal is to take what I share, and allow it to spark the fire within you. The fire to find what will make you look and feel amazing as well!
2. It’s okay if you’re the only one in your mommy group who is changing the narrative and showing up dressed and ready for her day at home with her children. I’ve been connecting with some amazing SAHMs these past few months, and I had to fight my own internal voice that was trying to tell me I’m doing too much! I had to shut that down! Give YOURSELF permission to do this for yourself first, and allow the overflow to reach your family! That is exactly what I’m doing and I love it here!
As my girl Angel said “Wake up a little earlier, thank the good Lord for waking you up… and then take the few moments that you have to get ready to serve your family“. As a stay at home mom/homemaker then you know this is our assignment. We are working and serving in our homes as unto the Lord, so show up accordingly.
