4 Things Every Beauty Beginner Needs to Know About Makeup + Youtube Live Replay

I don’t know if you can tell, but I LOVE doing this! In case you missed the live, or want to go back to your favorite moment… you can watch the replay here!

And if you’re a reader (like me) here are some helpful highlights from our time together!

A beautifully beat face, is so much more than just buying the right products. So let me break it down for you. These are what I’m calling the 4Ps for a flawless face!

1 Products

When it comes to products, you want to focus on what works for you, and your features. And as a general rule of thumb… you want to make sure you find your right shade/color in these 5 Areas! I’d say this is one of those moments when color really does matter!

    1. -Foundation Shade
    2. -Eyebrow Shade
    3. -Shade of Blush
    4. -Lip Color
    5. -Mascara color/Lash

2 Placement

Knowing the products to use is one thing, know how to properly place those products on your face is a whole other thing. When it comes to placement you have to use the right tools and techniques. A good beat is one that is Blended and Balanced.

Tools: What brushes, puff, sponges, pencils and other applicators do you need for proper placements (application) of the products. I gave an example of how I apply my under eye concealer. I use the Real Techniques to get into the corners and to really blend it out.

Technique: This speaks to knowing how to handle your tools for proper application. I shared the example that when I do my makeup, I use light, intentional  taps in an upward motion to apply the products to my face, especially my under eye concealer.   Heavy strokes, wipes, and smears are not the best techniques. How you handle your tools, and the motion you use to apply your makeup can make or break your look.

With the right tools and the right technique, we want to keep it balanced (applying the right amount of products to each facial feature) and blended (using the right technique with your tools). Turn to your neighbor and say… “BALANCED & BLENDED”! 😂

3. Practice

It. Takes. Practice. HELLO!? One of the main things missing in those viral “MY 15 min Face” Tutorial videos, is mentioning that it took time and lots of practice to get to that place of mastering how to do their makeup in that short amount of time. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been let down and discouraged way too many times trying to do my makeup quickly…. without a good amount of practice. Seriously.  I bought all the products from said video, and when I tried to do my own “15 min face”, not only did it NOT take 15 mins, I also struggled because in my haste it didn’t look good. So let me “deinfluence you” and tell you…. YOU WILL NEED TO PRACTICE, if you want to Master Your Face! It’s not a magic trick, it’s repetition paired with  the right roster of products!

As you join me in this series, give yourself permission to practice. Don’t wait until it’s time for your event to pull out your makeup bag… set aside some uninterrupted time to practice. Pick a random evening and turn it into an event. Turn on some music, listen to a good podcast, and sit down to practice. There is so much learning that happens when we can practice in peace.

4. Patience

Have patience with yourself. Some of us are quick studies. And others of us need to slow things down and patiently try… and try again. Either way, be patient in the process of learning. Whether take me along as your guide, or got the motivation you needed to try again… you will rarely can you get the results you desire when you move in haste. So let’s give ourselves permission to slow down the pace as we Master Our Face! Yaassss!!!
