It’s Master Your Face May on the blog, and I am so excited for this fun and engaging series, designed to teach you the beauty basics to master your face, empower you to confidently do it yourself, and equip you with the tools & techniques to do your makeup well!

Listen, I FINALLY heard you all loud and clear and as much as I refused to do anything that resembled a makeup tutorial, I’m here to give the people what they want… but I’m going to do it MY WAY!
Most, if not all, of you know that I love makeup. Not the trends, I don’t bother with those. I’m more so in love with the artistry and how makeup can be used to CELEBRATE what we’ve been blessed with naturally. And in a world full of filters and Ai enhancements, I’m happy to say… this is my unfiltered face, little blemish and all… and still a whole slay! A good makeup beat and natural sunlight will do that! I also drink my water and mind my business (but that’s a whole other conversation).

I’ve been wearing makeup for well over a decade, and I WISH… oh I WISH I could say that this beautiful blend of beauty products on my face was my norm from years ago. Well it wasn’t. Take a walk down memory lane with me, and let’s celebrate how far your girl has come! lol

I started wearing makeup circa 2011. I had very little knowledge of all the in and outs of a good beat aside from finding the right shade of foundation for my complexion. When I finally found “my color”, I thought I’d hit the jackpot. So much so that I decided to do my own wedding makeup! No practice, no plan, just the right products with no real understanding of how to apply it! I just grabbed what I had and went to the wedding venue. (In my defense I just wanted my man, and didn’t even think wedding makeup was that big of a deal until I saw my pictures 😂)

I really thought I knew what I was doing. Wild how little we realize we DON’T know, until we know that we don’t know! Read that again. FATHAAA

Well once I got those edits back, I realized that I indeed had no idea what I was really doing. Don’t get me wrong, I know I am beautifully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:14). I also know that a quick lesson on proper application and blending could have made a difference that day. lol.
It was then and there that I decided to really learn what products and techniques would work for my face and I how I wanted to look!
Years of watching countless tutorials, and buying/trying different products, I felt like I was starting to get a handle on how to do my makeup in a way that felt good and looked good. But I noticed that it wasn’t consistent. One day the makeup looked amazing, and then the next I couldn’t figure out where I went wrong. I also found myself getting distracted by the trends and trying to keep up with the viral products; brushes, blushes and shadows oh my.
So I went back to the basics, and got clear about what was most important for me when it came to wearing makeup:
- I wanted to reflect My King well! Snatched for His Glory was and is still a driving factor in how I show up.
- I wanted my routine to be nearly effortless. Something I could sit (or stand) and do with minimal time, products and effort.
- I wanted to see consistent results with my makeup routine. I was so over, one day looking and feeling amazing, and struggling to achieve those same results again the net day.
- I wanted to create a routine that would represent my “everyday glam”. Whether at home all day with the kids, out and about at a playdate/meetup, or heading to church on Sunday.
I finally hit my sweet spot in 2022 (I know 10 years later 😭), when I decided to really master my own face and the routine that would give me CONSISTENT results. In person and on camera. No filter. Just face.

It took me a long while of trial and error, but I did it! The proof is right there. And I’m happy to say I look the same in person as I do on camera. lol. Your girl learned how to MASTER my face!
Let’s look at two more examples, shall we.
This first collage is my wedding day selfie (I thought was full glam lol) 2015 vs. a Vow Renewal photo (actual full glam) from 2024. Not one filter or editing tool was used… just a good beat, a better iPhone camera and the sun hitting your girl in all the right places! Whew! And yes, I did my makeup in both photos. And what’s really interesting is that I used “cheaper” products in the right photo 😭. Knowing WHAT TO DO with YOUR OWN FACE really makes a difference!

And this photo collage is my everyday makeup selfie from 2016 vs. my everyday look from last month 2026 . Again not one filter or editing tool was used… just a good beat, a better iPhone camera and some natural lighting. (Also, just a moment of celebration for that hair on the right… it’s all mine 😭🙌🏾. The left is added hair. I’ve come a mighty long way)

I know y’all can see it. Beautiful in all stages of growth, just more skilled with the brush as time progressed 🙌🏾.
And now with what I’ve learned over the past decade of makeup mistakes and glam glories… I want to empower you, the beauty and makeup beginner, to Master Your Face!
Okay, that sounds cute, and worked for you… but what does that actually mean, Theresa?
Mastering Your Face, means learning how to properly use the products and techniques to create a look that fits your face, features and lifestyle. My goal this month is to help you go from feeling intimidated by makeup, to confidently applying makeup in celebration of that beauty that’s already there🙌🏾
